FINAL FANTASY VII: We don't get a clear picture of Zack, save his nobility, from FFVII. He is first mentioned, by Aeris simply in that her exboyfriend was a Soldier First Class. We only come to realize who Zack is once Cloud finally remembers who he is. For he longest time, he simply placed himself into Zack's shoes after he left his hometown to become a Soldier and failed at it. At first when we see this photo, Cloud is standing in full Soldier regalia in Zack's place, but later it is made known that Cloud, ashamed at having not meet his goals, kept his military uniform and masks on for most of the time he was in Niebelhiem-- Cloud has never been in the photo. This photo is the only good look we get of Zack during the game. After a Mako reactor explosion, the small town of Gongaga was rebuilt however its residents remain pemanently scarred, and there is an overwhelming atmosphere of loss, desolation, and despair. If Cloud goes to Gongaga with Tifa and Aeris, you can talk to Zack's parents. Zack's poor parents, having no word from their prodigal so in 5 years, continues hoping that their son will come home one day. *cries*
